Erik graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2013 and turned professional the same year. He currently lives in Jupiter, Florida and has competed on the PGA Tour since 2020.
Erik’s first professional victory was the 2017 Eye of Africa PGA Championship and that same year he also won the Hainan Open on the Challenge Tour. Further strong results, including top finishes in Kazakhstan and Oman, secured his promotion to the 2018 European Tour. Late in 2017 he finished runner-up at the Joburg Open, qualifying for his first major, the 2018 Open Championship. In 2018 he contended at the Irish Open, leading after three rounds before finishing tied fourth.
Erik enjoyed a strong 2019 season, recording runner-up finishes in Qatar and Morocco and a top-10 in the PGA Championship, before winning his first European Tour title at the Scandinavian Invitation. He reached 40th in the world rankings in 2020 and earned PGA Tour status, claiming victories at the 2021 Barracuda Championship and the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship. In 2025 Erik finished 2nd to Scottie Scheffler in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and 2nd in the Barracuda Championship.
